Who is a Candidate for Medical Weight Loss in Brandon, FL?

Did you know that over 45 million people in America try going on a diet every year? With as many obese people in the nation, that makes sense. Unfortunately, about half of those people fail to meet their weight loss goals. Often, it's because the diets they choose aren't focused on making them healthy - they're only about quick, unhealthy weight loss.

In reality, most diets don't work in the long run. The best way to lose weight and keep it off for good is with practical, healthy lifestyle changes. That's where physicians and other weight loss professionals can help. Unlike fly-by-night diets, medical weight loss has been proven to be effective.

But how do you know if you're a candidate? Let's take a look at five common signs you need medical weight loss treatment.

You're 100 Pounds over Recommended Weight

While it's true that about 42% of the U.S. population is considered overweight, not everyone needs a weight loss program to follow. However, if you're more than 100 pounds over the recommended weight for your height and age, medical weight loss might be the best option for weight loss.

Other Diets and Weight Loss Methods Failed You

Are you at your wit's end because you've tried every diet under the sun, only to make minimal to no progress? Millions of other Americans are going through the same problems you're experiencing. At Nutrifi40, we work with many different patients, many of whom come to use exasperated because nothing they try works. You may be tempted to give up, but we encourage you to consider a medical weight loss clinic for help.

Normal Activities are Hard or Impossible

One of the most challenging aspects of being obese is that everyday life gets much more complicated. Yes, trying to fit into regular clothes is probably off the table, but so are ordinary things that require minimal effort. Simple tasks like carrying groceries from your car into your house are extremely difficult. Other activities, like walking upstairs in a friend's home, are out of the question.

You Have Health Problems Due to Obesity

Medical weight loss is about much more than aesthetics or vanity. It's about preventing or reversing weight-related health issues that put your life at risk. Once you cross a certain threshold, it's hard to get off meds like cholesterol pills, but with medical weight loss, it's possible. Former All-America linebacker and two-time national champion Brandon Spikes will take a pre-game timeout from his grad assistant role to lead the famous cheer before the Gators take on the Seminoles.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Gators (5-6) have a chance to save their season and ruin a rival's Saturday night when they take on fifth-ranked Florida State (11-0) in the 2023 finale at Spurrier/Florida Field. The Seminoles are in the thick of the College Football Playoff hunt and will be looking to stay unbeaten.

Brandon Spikes, meanwhile, will be looking to stay unbeaten against FSU.

In the 10-year history of the honorary "Mr. Two Bits" tradition, no active UF football player or coach has ever been tabbed to do George Edmondson's famous pre-game cheer. Spikes is in his first season as a student assistant coach after returning to school to finish his degree. So since he's going to be in the house anyway, he might as well come out of locker room, make the walk through the tunnel he knows so well, run onto the field that he used to call home, only this time donning khakis and a yellow shirt when he sends the sell-out crowd into a pre-kickoff frenzy.

"The [Florida State] game was always a big one on my calendar," Spikes said. "I'm going to be the guy getting everybody going before the battle. That means a lot to me."

Spikes was a 6-foot-3, 255-pound inside linebacker during his two-time All-America hey day. He was one of many Gators who got everybody going; mostly his teammates.

He arrived here as a true freshman in the 2006 class alongside Tim Tebow and some of the greatest players in program history. He left four years later with 46 victories (to just seven losses), two Southeastern Conference championships and two national titles. Spikes was a second-round draft pick of the New England Patriots in 2010 and played six seasons in the NFL, the final two with Buffalo.

He'll be the third player from that two-time championship era – joining Percy Harvin and Louis Murphy – to get the "Two Bits" call.

"I know the history behind it," said Spikes, who never got to meet the real Edmondson. "We could definitely hear him getting the crowd going when we were in the locker room, for sure."

Now that assignment will go to Spikes, which means he'll basically be pulling double-duty.

Since Spikes returned to UF last summer, his charge has been to do whatever he can to help instill the kind of culture and mentality that made Florida football a national power in what now seems like a long time ago. His legacy (not to mention cred with the band of current-day players) enjoyed something of a renaissance in August when Spikes was one of the half-dozen players prominently featured in the "Swamp Kings" documentary on Netflix that profiled those great (and colorful) Urban Meyer-era Florida teams.

"I want the Gators to be back and elite again," he said. "We did lot of things when I was here to be the No. 1 team in the country. I want to be a part of getting us back to that. Obviously, I'm also here to finish school, but I believe I can communicate to the guys a little bit better. I've been in their shoes and been to the places they're trying to go. I feel like I can relate to them on and off the field."

On Saturday, just watch how he relates to the crowd of 90,000 or so.

"I'll keep it traditional," Spikes said. "I'm a traditional guy."

With a lot of great history (and success) on his orange and blue resume.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an HCA Florida Brandon Hospital intensive-care unit nurse, accusing her of stealing 17 bags of fentanyl from the hospital.

Lisa Williams, 55, faces 17 charges each of grand theft of a controlled substance and trafficking fentanyl. Deputies say Williams refilled the bags with an unknown substance and put them back into circulation.

“I am appalled by the betrayal of trust exhibited by this nurse who stole fentanyl bags from the very institution entrusted with the well-being of our community,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister in a news release. “These actions not only jeopardize lives but undermine the fundamental principles of healthcare.”

Fentanyl is used in hospitals to treat pain. It is a synthetic opioid often mixed with or sold as a substitute for other, illegal drugs such as heroin and poses a risk of fatal overdose.

On Dec. 12, deputies say staff at Florida Brandon Hospital reached out to detectives at the sheriff’s office regarding an internal investigation of Williams. Detectives believe that Williams had been stealing fentanyl bags dating back to Oct. 2.

The sheriff’s office said they recovered one of the tampered bags and it is currently being tested by the Food and Drug Administration. They suspect it may contain saline but won’t be sure until the test results are returned.

“It is difficult to comprehend how someone who is supposed to save lives is instead risking them for personal gain. My office will ensure anyone engaged in trafficking this deadly poison will be held accountable for their actions,” said State Attorney Suzy Lopez in the news release.

Records show Williams was arrested at her Lithia home Thursday morning and is being held in a Hillsborough County jail with a bail set at $68,000.

Williams is no longer employed at the hospital, said Laura Stauter, director of communications at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital, said in a statement provided to the Tampa Bay Times.

Sauter said the hospital has extensive safeguards in place to ensure medications are administered and accounted for.

“These safeguards led to the discovery of some discrepancies,” Stauter said. “After a timely internal investigation, hospital leadership reported the incident to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, FDA, and the state board of nursing.”

FLORIDA — A last-ditch effort to save Buy Buy Baby has failed, and the company will close all its stores in Florida and across the U.S. as part of its bankrupt parent company's ongoing liquidation.

CNBC reported that the owner of children’s apparel company Janie and Jack was "eager" to buy the Bed Bath & Beyond chain and keep it running, but could not reach a deal on its value.

There are seven Buy Buy Baby (styled buybuy BABY) stores remaining in Florida. As of Thursday morning, these locations are still listed as open on Buy Buy Baby's website:

Buy Buy Baby's lender "determined it could recover more of its losses" by selling the chain's IP (intellectual property) and going ahead with liquidation sales. Debtors canceled an auction of the entire business last week, CNN Business reported. It is not immediately clear when stores would begin closing.

New Jersey's Dream on Me Industries, one of Buy Buy Baby’s former suppliers, won the chain’s trademark and digital assets for $15.5 million according to CNBC. Bed Bath & Beyond failed to receive any higher bids.

Buy Buy Baby was seen as one of the retailer's more valuable assets, with several companies interested in securing at least part of the brand separately from the parent company.

Bed Bath & Beyond, which is headquartered in Union, New Jersey, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on April 23, listing its estimated assets and liabilities at a value up to $10 billion. Discounted sales have been going on since late April at 360 Bed Bath and Beyond stores around the country, including the stores remaining in New Jersey.

Overstock.com put in a $21.5 million offer for Bed Bath & Beyond's IP in June.

BRANDON, FL — Barnes & Noble has announced the opening of its new Brandon bookstore on Wednesday, Aug. 23. This event marks the first new Barnes & Noble in the area since the opening of its Wesley Chapel location in 2008.

The new Barnes & Noble is in Regency Square, 2428 W Brandon Blvd., Brandon, next to Petco.

The bookstore will officially open to the public at 10 a.m. on Wednesday with author Lincoln Child cutting the ribbon and signing copies of his newest book, Dead Mountain. The new location showcases the highly lauded bookstore design seen in the most recent Barnes & Noble store openings, housing books, toys, games and gifts.

“The appetite this community has for books is no more apparent than in the aisles of our Brandon Square store, well-loved and shopworn after 29 years,” said Amy Fitzgerald, vice president of stores for Barnes & Noble. “With this move, we replace the dated furniture and layout of the past. The new Regency Square store maintains the time-tested formula of well-stocked bookstores staffed by excellent booksellers. Now we do so in beautiful new stores designed to delight our customers and help them discover their next favorite book.”

Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its manager has proven so successful. The bookseller is enjoying exceptionally strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after over 15 years of declining store numbers.

In 2022, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019. The bookseller expects to open over 30 new bookstores in 2023, with the Brandon location being the first to open in the area since 2008.

“It’s very exciting to lead this relocation,” said store manager Heather Fabritiis, a Barnes & Noble bookseller of 13 years. “The new bookstore design is so much brighter and more inviting, and we’ve been choosing our assortment with our loyal Brandon customers in mind. Better still, we’re now just across the street from our previous location. We can’t wait to welcome readers into our beautiful new bookstore.”
